VII Cyprus-Russian Festival – better and more interesting!

At the official opening ceremony of the VII Cyprus-Russian Festival the Chairwoman of the Organizing Committee Natalia Kardash in her opening speech stressed that every year the relations between Russia and Cyprus have become stronger, and the Cyprus-Russian Festival – bigger and more interesting. Natalia Kardash said: “The organization of such events is not so easy. The editors of the newspaper “Vestnik Kipra”, as all festival organizers, made every effort to ensure that everything is at the highest level. We are proud that every year in the Cyprus-Russian festival more and more people are involved. Cyprus-Russian Festival is a meeting place for friends and acquaintances, the concert stage, where Russian and Cypriot culture meet.

The Mayor of Limassol Andreas Christou said that events such as the Cyprus-Russian festival emphasize the close link between the cities of Cyprus and Russia. He thanked the leaders of the general sponsors of the festival and gave them the gifts from the organizers.
Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Cyprus, Yuri Kazakov, on behalf of the Embassy of Russia greeted the organizers, participants and guests of the VII Cyprus-Russian festival. He said: “The Festival again gathers thousands of people. It presents an excellent opportunity for mutual acquaintance with Russian and Cypriot culture.”
Deputy Director of the agency “Rossotrudnichestvo” Georgy Muradov read the address of Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Andrey Denisov who said: “The joint festival brings together people of Russia and Cyprus, the evidence of mutual respect for cultural traditions, the desire for unity and peace, helps to build bridges of friendship. Festival fulfills the spiritual energy, multiplies the cultural values.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus Erato Kozakou-Markoullis addressed the speech of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias. The President thanked the organizers of the festival – the Russian Embassy, ​​the Municipality of Limassol and the Russian newspaper “Vestnik Kipra” for the initiative and the excellent organization of this cultural event. He stressed that the festival has become a tradition that enriches the cultural life of Cyprus, reflects the friendly relations between Cyprus and Russia. The President expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the people of Cyprus in relation to the Russian Federation and wished the festival a great success.
In the 8-hour marathon concert, there were two stages, basic and small, attended by over 600 people. During the day time on the main stage there was a traditional concert with the best children’s creative teams of Russia and Cyprus. Young participants presented a vocal, sport and dance performances of various genres: ballet, folk and ballroom dancing.
The concert program which was on a small scene in “Russian village” is a new project. Bright folk style were shown by members of vocal group “Rosinka”, school LITC (Limassol) and show group “Russkie zabavy” from Novorossiysk. Visitors of the “Russian village” were met by puppets – the characters of Russian fairy tale “Masha and the Bear”, as well as a friendly hostess who invited guests to a traditional Russian tea ceremony with a samovar. Guests took part in plenty of contests.
Special guest of the “Russian village” was Marina Bishere – embroideress of icons. Another type of the crafts in the “Russian village” was presented by Yuri Lenshin – a glassblower with 43 years of professional experience, the honored artist of Russia, who is included in the “Guinness Book of Records”, the owner of numerous honors and state awards of the USSR and Russia.
Fans of art were able to visit an art exhibition with the participation of members of the Creative Union of Professional Artists of Russia and their Cypriot counterparts, which featured more than 100 works in the areas of: landscape, portrait, abstraction, surrealism.
Everyone could examine in detail the history of the festival on the company’s stand of VESTINK KIPRA.

The company E.PYRGA has treated the youngest guests of the festival with free ice cream, and the company CINNABON – with its famous pastries. For the kids there worked an entertaining park. And, of course, all the guests enjoyed the Fair full of souvenirs, toys, books, jewelry, cosmetics and treats, from sweets to the Cypriot traditional food. There were also the delicacies of Japanese and Chinese cuisine at a special food court.

Another innovation of the festival program – events organized by the readers of Russian newspaper “Vestnik Kipra”. The competitors of the best events got the prizes of the University of Nicosia – the scholarships. The exhibition of vintage cars was held with the participation of the automobile Panther Club Cyprus. The participants of the show “Live Statues” appeared in the images of the heroes of ancient myths. The first high heel race competition was held in Cyprus.

Girls and ladies aged 18 to 58 years old from Russia, Cyprus, Germany and Ukraine competed in individual and command competition.

The evening gala concert opened the singers and dancers from Russia and Cyprus. The famous Russian star Anita Tsoi completed the gala concert. Anita has performed new and already well-known songs that became hits. At 23:00 the sky shone in Limassol – festival program completed by the unusual beauty of fireworks.
